One of the elder statesmen of Puerto Iguazu, the Iguazu Grand Resort Spa and Casino has long held the mantle for being the place to stay while in the area (as the alternative to the Sheraton). Today, we would argue that the nearby Loi Suites is probably more deserving of the title as the Iguazu Grand is looking a little dated these days. This being said, however, if you are looking for elegant decoration and facilities such as a casino then this might be the option.
Granted status as a Luxury Small Hotel the Iguazu Grand certainly has all the requirements that it needs on paper. It features a grand entrance hall with all types of marble and columns adorning the walls and floor. It has a host of facilities such as a an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, gym and spa facilities. The rooms themselves are mainly decorated with floral motifs, but are a good size and have views out to the manicured gardens that surround the property.
There is, however, something slightly lacking for our money. The faded air that the hotel has and the fact that it is not really that small lend to the feeling that you are just one of the crowd. This is often the feeling with casino hotels where the turn over of clientele is so rapid and numerous. With this being the largest casino close to the border with Brazil, there is a strong argument to say that this is actually the reason it has done so well over the years, rather than service or anything else.
On the whole, we are reasonable fans of the place and do recommend it to clients….but there are definitely better alternatives, even the sister hotel to the Grand, the Panoramic Hotel, would be a better option (this too is a casino hotel…just in case!)
